There and back again
Yesterday was the first day I rode both to and from work, each trip during periods of fairly heavy traffic. I also ran at lunch time, still jogging slowly to get completely used to my orthotic inserts.
Things to remember:
- Must look into shoe covers for riding in chilly weather.
- Even when riding only two hours a day, shorts that don't bunch up in the crotch are a prerequisite.
- The same national road that feels like a bike trail at 7-8 am or 3:30-4:30 pm in August feels like a traffic jam at 8:30 am or 6:30 pm in town.
- Roadwork inevitably leaves the roughest edges along the outside of the road.
- When taking the car the same week, don't hesitate to leave a set of clothes at work.
I expect to try riding the train with my bike soon. Less convenient than taking the car, but probably more convenient than riding all the way in.
