it's been a long time

So work kept me really busy for a long time with our new coach system rollout on 2006-01-01. Yes, the release has so many things that need to be done after it goes out that we still are not recovered.

At a certain point during a project, though, you stop worrying about the design of the system and you see, "hmm, just got to get this in" and it looks like a one-off fix so you just code it in there and let the next programmer worry about it. Hopefully, you comment it, too, because you may be the next person worrying about it.

Then you come back to it a few months later, and in the midst of cursing at the stupid *$#%()^%)! who coded that ugly mess... the realization slowly dawns on you.

That must be how people eventually got to things like coding standards, object-orientation, extreme programming, and so forth.
