Mom gave Nathalie and me a couple of presents, the first being a Segway tour of the Asheville arboretum. We both got the hang of it relatively quickly, though Nathalie fell once and was nervous from then on about going downhill. She said later she had sore muscles from being so tense.
The second was a night at a bed and breakfast in Waynesville called Oak Hill.
This turn-of-the-last-century home was built by a man who was mayor of Waynesville for while. The mayor and his wife apparently had 10 children. Charming.
A day after Independence Day the girls are watching Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel, and Tim and Nath are playing cards with my parents and Loraine.
For July 4 we went to a church potluck and hog roast complete with (a pretty good) bluegrass band. Nath was having a difficult time speaking Appalachian mountain English. Tim was upset this morning because I would not take him to Dunkin’ Donuts. He had only eaten 4 desserts yesterday.
We also listened to the drum circle in downtown Asheville on Friday. But they were playing repetetively to make it easier for the tourists to take part.
