Dead legs. This morning's 32 km (20 mi) run was hard from the very start. Nathalie said I looked tired before I went out. I felt cold, listless, stiff. The view's nice, though. Here's the Chartreuse side:

Didn't quite hit the wall today. That may have been due to the bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar and frozen cherries at 7:00 am before running at 8. Felt like stopping at only about 20 km, however. My time appears to have been about 5 minutes faster than two weeks ago.

Have you ever seen the view from the top of the ridge pictured here? Well worth it and much easier than running 20 miles. I think the kids could even do it. There's still a stone marker showing the boundary between the kingdom of France and the Duchy of Savoy up there.

The place I'm thinking of is called the Col de l'Alpe (1783m). You can get to it from your side by going up through Montalieu and les Pres to the Route forestière de Pré Orcel (1405 m). Here's a writeup: http://montagne.plisson.org/sortsem/alpe2005/alpe.htm.

I've only been up around the side to the Granier pass on my bike, which is in spots a very steep ride from Chapareillan. Should take the children to Col de l'Alpe. The photos behind the link look like fun and not too rough if you don't bike up there to Pré Orcel first. Thanks.

We have gone up the Belledonne side. There's a nice hike up to a communications tower from the Tour d'Avalon behind Pontcharra. Haven't had time to complete it with the children, but we've gone out that way with them, and with Ludo and Veronique and the girls. Nice and quiet and easy for the kids.
